Performance Spaces
Every semester, Mermaids put up shows across three different venues in St Andrews. These are The Byre Main Stage, The Stage in the Union and the Barron (at the Byre) in the top studio of the Byre. Depending on cast sizes, budget and set, your show might work better in one venue than the other. To propose a show, you must specify which venue to wish to propose for, and to help you make that decision, we have gathered these venue details below. Please do reach out or talk to us in our office hours if you have any questions about what venue to choose. Do not contact any of the venues directly, we will organize the venue booking for you if your show gets passed after your proposal.
Mainstage
The Byre Theatre
The Byre Theatre main stage is the largest venue that Mermaids perform in, and usually we put up 1-2 shows there each semester.
Audience capacity: 216
Cost: Flat fee £1,050 (includes 2 nights and one full get-in day before)
Box Office Split: 6%
Number of Dressing Rooms: 3
The Barron
@ The Byre Theatre
The Barron Theatre is the smaller of our 3 venues, and offers a perfect environment for an immersive audience experience. Mermaids usually put up around 4 shows in the Barron each semester. This venue is operated by Mermaids and is available for both Affiliated & Non-Affiliated groups.
Audience capacity: 60
Cost: £1 per ticket sold
Number of Dressing Rooms: 1
The StAge
Student Union (ENTS)
The StAge is the performance venue in the Students Union where Mermaids puts on a few productions every semester.
Audience capacity: 111 - 165
Cost: Flat fee £550 (includes 2 nights)
Box Office Split: 0%
