The Children's Hour

October 2nd and 3rd

The Barron Theatre

The play explores the consequences of childhood gossip in the 1930s in relation to the LGBTQ+ community, when two women’s lives are turned upside down by their pupil’s rumour. It is an important piece of theatre with an incredible history of censorship and controversy and we cannot wait to bring it to St Andrews.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON TRIGGERS: We are committed to openness and awareness in producing this piece of theatre. It is a gut wrenching story based on true events. With many of us at Peachy Keen identifying as queer ourselves, we strongly disagree with the use of the portrayal of homophobic abuse (or indeed abuse of any kind) for shock value. We therefore want to be clear to all wishing to be involved or wishing to see the play when it goes up, it does feature the suicide of a queer character. We feel it is important to disclose this, for many reasons, but also because Hellman herself states that it is not to be portrayed as a sensational.
